25th August, 2025 — A new plugin for Moodle enables site owners to use Safeguard Media to copy protect all media including PDF and video.
The Safeguard Media service enables website owners to embed copy protected media into their web pages that uses the ArtistScope Site Protection System (ASPS) to create a secure tunnel between a website and the user's desktop.
ASPS provides the most secure all round protection for all web page media including text, images, PDF and video. While viewed in ArtisBrowser, nothing can be copied or exploited in any way, including the use of screen capture, scraping or packet sniffer software.
The Safeguard Media solution was originally desgned to enable WordPress websites to use ASPS which provides very much more effective copy protection than normal WordPress plugins that can only disable right-click mouse actions.
For copy protection, ASPS is beyond comparison because it is a two part solution that begins by encrypting web pages at server level to deliver them for display in ArtisBrowser, a secure web browser designed especially for copy protecting web content. While a web page is in Protect Mode, nothing can be saved or copied in any way. No other copy protection solution for web content can compare because they don't use page encryption and are depend on normal web browsers that are incapable of actioning at system level where copy needs to be controlled.
However ASPS is a server side solution that runs at root level. Hence normal websites, those using shared hosting services, are unable to use ASPS without an interface like the one provided by the Safeguard Media plugin.
While Moodle and WordPress are both content management systems (CMS), WordPress is designed for general use while Moodle is especially deigned as a learning management system (LMS) that is more complex requiring more skills and experience to operate. Consequently plugin functions are much more complicated and creating a new plugin for Moodle, especially one interfacing such a sophisticated service as Safeguard Media, has taken some time to complete.
The Safeguard Media plugin for Moodle is now available for download and evaluation.
The Safeguard Media plugin embeds an iFrame to display images, PDF and video on existing web pages and posts. While that iFrame is displayed, copy protection applies to the whole page and not just the iframe. From a display perspective the iFrame is not noticeable, and to a site visitor, it just looks like a normal web page with media displayed... except that the ArtisBrowser is required.
ArtisBrowser is a secure web browser specially designed for copy protected web pages. Without it, web pages cannot be copied protected. If the user is not using ArtisBrowser, they are redirected to its download page with instructions.
Safeguard Media content (images, PDF and video) can be added to web pages from the Moodle editor, by clicking the [SMedia] icon in the editor's toolbar.
Moodle's LMS and user login system can be sufficient DRM (access rights) for users. Additional to access-rights control, the copy protection provided by the Safeguard Media plugin is secong to none:
