Is there a limit to file size?

Post by HaroldB »

My eBooks are quite large... is there a limit to how large a PDF I can encrypt?

The file size of the PDF that you encrypt is really up to you, but files larger than 30MB for a PDF should be checked for oversized images, while keeping in mind that computers can only display images between 72-96 dpi and the images taken by cameras and mobile phones are usually about 300 dpi. Also, 100% quality setting is overkill when 80-90% quality looks the same but dramatically reduces file size.

Now, if you have your images optimised, and ready for distribution, think about your audience. For desktop reading user's can download the PDF and view locally. If the download takes a while they can other things while waiting. But if you are displaying online, then they will have to wait while the PDF downloads and decrypts before it will be viewable.

Now that you know what to avoid, be advised that we do have an 80MB limit on uploads to the Copysafe Online Store. That upload limit also applies to any PDF that you might upload for encryption by the server side version of Copysafe PDF Protector.
