How to copy protect web pages

Post by Readline45 »

I have an existing website that uses WordPress, but I see that ASPS offers the best all round protection, meaning for all types of media.

I already have member logins setup for a restricted access to pages that display PDF and video. Would ASPS be better for copy protecting those web pages?

Do I need to upgrade to a VPS to use ASPS?

Yes, the ArtistScope Site Protection System (ASPS) will copy protect web pages most securely so that nothing can be copied, including text, images, PDF and video. But it does require a dedicated server or VPS for the rights to install the server module at root level.

If you are using WordPress then you can use the Safeguard Media plugin as an interface with ASPS running on our web server.

The only real difference is that with ASPS on a VPS, you get to nominate which reader/viewer is used (and be responsible for its integration), whereas with the Safeguard Media plugin, you get to use the reader/viewer that is already provided.

What is the difference in plain terms?

With ASPS you can use any PDF reader or video player at your disposal, providing that you can disable options for copy, save, download, print. For example with some video hosting services like Vimeo, they enforce the use of their own player... but you need to be able to disable those menu items to close the back door.

Likewise with PDF plugins based on PDFJS, the standard player includes toolbar options for all manner of copy, save, print commands. However they can be disabled if you know how.

But with the Safeguard Media plugin, those copy options have already been disabled for you.
