How can I test Copysafe PDF protection?

Post by DigiPark »

I would like to download Copysafe PDF Protection to see how it works, and then test its output for protection security.

Where can I download?

Copysafe PDF can be evaluated 3 different ways:

1. Download the Copysafe PDF software bundle which includes both the PDF Protector and the PDF Reader at https://artistscope.com/copysafe_pdf_protection.asp

2. Visit the online demos (ArtisBrowser is required) at https://wordpress.artistscope.com/

3. Sign up for a demo account for DRM management of PDF at https://artistscope.net/drm/register.asp

Thanks, that was amazing!

There are so many "PDF protect" options available today and they all claim to be wonderful. But the proof is in the pudding.

Without any fuss I was able to create a demo DRM account and start using it straight away. However I have some questions:

1. Do my users have to be online (connected to the Internet) to open DRM protected ebooks?

2. Is it true that, even though a user may have by ebook saved to their computer, that should they default in payment or breach my terms, that I can cancel their reading rights with immediate effect?

3. What happens with the originals that I upload for server encryption?

1. Do my users have to be online (connected to the Internet) to open DRM protected ebooks?
Yes. DRM tokens are possible but they are not recommended because they can last forever and they may complicate things for the user. With call-to-home DRM all the user needs to do is nominate their username/password the first time they open the DRM protected PDF. Subsequent usage will then be automatically validated.
2. Is it true that, even though a user may have by ebook saved to their computer, that should they default in payment or breach my terms, that I can cancel their reading rights with immediate effect?
Yes. When DRM is applied to a Copysafe PDF document, every time they open the document, their access rights are checked at the DRM server. So if you cancel their subscription for that particular document, they cannot open it next time. Such changes have immediate effect, even though they may have the document saved to their computer.
3. What happens with the originals that I upload for server encryption?
Only the encrypted (protected) version of your PDF is stored online. Raw PDF documents in the upload folder are periodically deleted. The originals are removed to both preserve your privacy, and reclaim disk space.

Ah, so it is possible to DRM with Copysafe PDF and be offline?

What is the procedure to get that happening?

As a demo user you won't see that option, but when you get a real DRM account, look in the menus when logged into your dashboard... when you create a new eBook permission, a token is created that they can download and save to their computer. Notice is sent to them by email with instructions.

Copysafe PDF Reader usually checks online for DRM permissions, but if there is no Internet connection, it will look for a locally stored DRM token file. The user just needs to ensure that they store that file in the same folder as the Copysafe PDF document.

NOTE: DRM tokens are forever. Even setting expiry can spoofed by changing computer date. That is why we don't recommend them. In fact the only client that really ever needed DRM tokens provides pre-exam study courses for seamanship certificates. Their students are more often than not mid ocean and without Internet.
