No difference to page load, however if this is in reference to SEO then note that pages that you want to protect should not be accessible to search engines... nor should they be. Instead, you allow access to all of the pages (doorway pages) leading to your protected pages. To re-iterate, pages cannot be protected if they are left open to all and sundry.
