ArtistScope

ArtistScope is an artist-oriented company founded in 1997 specifically to address the need for robust image protection systems for use by artists and photographers to protect their visual content online. The company is headquartered in Bribie Island, Australia, with users worldwide and free download centres in each major continent for the distribution of downloads and plugins for their client's visitors. ArtistScope were the pioneers of image protection and the first company to develop and distribute commercial copy protection solutions beyond download.

The introduction of image encryption for use on the Internet enabled protection of the image beyond screen presentation and downloading to the user’s browser. Prior to that the only means available to artists was either branding the image with a logo which can be an ugly effect, or by using an invisible Digimarc tag, useful for attaching the owners identity but offering no “protection”.

In 1998 the Copysafe plugin was developed to further protect images from Printscreen and screen capture software. Copysafe is the only real capture safe copy protection system available today. It can be run from any web site, server type or even on CD.
